I decided, at first pass, to render in B&W. Every time I look at an image in color, I don't like the color cast or balance, and I've seen them done hundreds of times, and much better, by underwater professionals with far superior underwater equipment, including flash and filters (much more likely to get it right in the first place). These were all done with a first-series Sony RX100 and the cheapest underwater housing I could find. You can easily view fabulous color images on many scuba diving websites. Also, I just find the B&W renditions (my personal bias) a bit more unusual and arresting - what's the point of showing you the same old, same old?. Judge for yourself, but I may just not bother with color.
Except - see Manta encounter video at bottom, in color! And several others, kindly provided by our Dive Director Jace Green aboard the "Mutiara Laut" on which we spent 11 days moving through Raja Ampat. Click button below to see our dive vessel.
All this will, I hope, give you a small taste of the abundance, variety and health of the marine life and coral reefs in these waters - simply stunning! It was our best scuba trip ever - and I'm comparing with: Caribbean, Red Sea, Papua New Guinea, Galapagos, Palau, Fiji, Solomon Islands - all live aboard dive boats.
